I've always kinda liked the Bucks. Not exactly sure why, but that feeling even pre-dates fellow Australian Andrew Bogut being there. I guess Kareem - or rather, Lew Alcindor and the Big O have a part to play in that. Such class.
And a franchise without pretention, even tho' they enjoyed the quickest road to success for any expansion team.
Anyway, without further ado - the top 5 Milwaukee Bucks of all time!
5. Glenn A. Robinson - The "Big Dog". Yet another player that through the passage of time, has wilted somewhat in our memories. But when he played, the guy was amazing. Career at the Bucks - more than 21 ppg and 6.2 boards. Notable: signed the biggest ever rookie contract in the history of the NBA.
4. Sidney A. Moncrief - What is it with the Bucks and all these unappreciated players? Sidney Moncrief brought it night in, night out - both ends of the floor. A defensive fiend, even Jordan admired his game. He took the Bucks to the playoffs every year of his ten years there.
3. Marques Kevin Johnson - One of the best SFs in the game in his time, Johnson was the guy who brought about the position of "point forward". Basically, at the time, the Bucks had no-one more capable. The best seven years of his career were those at Milwaukee. In '79, the only player with a better PER was Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
2. Oscar Palmer Robertson - A lot of people are going to criticize having "The Big O" at #2, but then you have to remember Robertson's best individual years were at Cincinnati, not Milwaukee.
Even so, Robertson was a fearsome presence at the Bucks. He and the then Lew Alcindor lead Milwaukee to their first, and only title, winning the whole shebang in only their third season. No other expansion team has ever enjoyed such success.
1. Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar)- With the first pick of the 1969 NBA draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select Lew Alcindor.
Such grace, poise and stature... perhaps the most understated player of all time. There's no godly reason that the name Kareem Abdul Jabbar isn't mentioned in the same breath as Michael Jordan. No player ever scored more. No player has an achievement list quite like his. And no player dominated the game of basketball - at all levels - more than Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
Following this, Minnesota's own Timberwolves!
